A Video Statement by Nigar Iskandarova was shown at UN HRC

Today, a video statement by Nigar Iskanderova, a member of the Board of Directors of the “Legal Analysis and Research” Public Association, which has the status of a UN ECOSOC Special Observer, was shown during the general debates held during the 58th plenary session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. We bring to your attention the full text of her video statement:

“Distinguished delegates, esteemed colleagues,

Early childhood development is the foundation of a child’s future—shaping cognitive, emotional, and social well-being. Investing in the early years is not just a national priority; it is a global imperative that determines the progress of societies. In Azerbaijan, NGOs play a crucial role in ensuring access to quality early childhood programs, particularly for vulnerable communities. Their efforts align with global frameworks, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, to guarantee that every child, regardless of background, can thrive.

However, we must acknowledge the tragic impact of war on childhood development. During the 44-day Karabakh War in 2020, 12 children were killed as a result of Armenian attacks. Additionally, many children were injured, displaced, and suffered psychological trauma due to the war.

By strengthening partnerships between governments, NGOs, and international bodies, we can build resilient systems that safeguard early childhood development, even in times of crisis. Let us commit today to ensuring that every child—especially those affected by conflict—receives the care, education, and support they deserve.

Thank you.”
